Informed Choice in Employment

It’s More Than Just Asking…

with David Hoff, Institute for Community Inclusion – University of Massachusetts Boston and Stirling Peebles ,Think College Vermont – Center for Disability and Community Inclusion

David and Stirling share strategies that will ensure that choice in terms of employment is truly “informed”, particularly for individuals with significant disabilities with limited experience in both employment and choice making, and who may be in the habit of deferring to the wishes of others.

They emphasize strategies for getting beyond simply asking an individual their employment preferences, and explore the use of an experiential approach for choice making. The presenters not only share the professional point of view, but include the perspectives of a self-advocate. A series of specific strategies for facilitating informed choice for employment is shared.
